The operations at SiNiCo Mine will primarily involve open-pit mining. The extracted ore will undergo in situ hydrometallurgical treatment, utilizing atmospheric heap leaching. The process will be carried out in various stages, ensuring effective extraction and processing of the ore to obtain the desired products


SiNiCo will employ the atmospheric heap leaching process, an environmentally friendly and contemporary method, to produce Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) from the Sipilou nickel laterite ore. This approach ensures sustainable production while upholding stringent quality standards throughout the process. SiNiCo’s vision includes the construction of a commercial plant with a significant annual production capacity of 40,000 tonnes of nickel in MHP. This state-of-the-art facility will enable efficient and scalable production, meeting the growing demand for MHP in the market while minimizing environmental impact and maximizing resource utilization.

Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate (MHP) is an intermediate product derived from nickel hydrometallurgy and obtained from laterite ores. It typically consists of nickel with a content ranging from 34% to 55% and a small amount of cobalt, typically ranging from 1% to 4.5%.

The production of MHP involves the adjustment of pH using a basic chemical like sodium hydroxide. This process leads to the precipitation of nickel hydroxides, cobalt hydroxides, and various impurities.

MHP offers a higher concentration of valuable metals compared to the original laterite ore. For instance, while the original ore may contain 1% nickel and 0.8% cobalt, MHP can concentrate these elements to approximately 40% nickel and 3.2% cobalt.

Utilizing the atmospheric heap leaching method, SiNiCo aims to produce 40,000 metric tons of nickel in MHP concentrate each year. This high-value product serves as a significant input in the production of batteries and other applications in the green energy and technology sectors.

MHP as a product in the global market

MHP (Mixed Hydroxide Precipitate) plays a vital role in the industrial production of batteries for electric vehicles (EVs). As the demand for sustainable transportation solutions rises, EVs are increasingly seen as a key alternative to combat climate change and global warming.
